New VMware Ready Devices

At VMworld this week you’ll hear a lot of exciting news coming from VMware on the mobile side and today I’m very excited to announce the immediate availability of several new VMware Ready devices and give you an update on our mobile efforts.

The new DROID lineup from Verizon Wireless – Motorola DROID Maxx, Motorola DROID Ultra and Motorola DROID Mini – is VMware Ready.  These new devices are available in the market starting Aug 19th.

HTC One on Verizon Wireless is also VMware Ready and is available for purchase starting August 22nd.

We’ve also been working closely with LG since we announced they were our first partner to bring VMware virtualization to mobile devices.  And today we announced that LG G2 will be VMware Ready at launch on all major US carriers.  The G2 is a great device and we’re honored to be part of the launch.

In addition to enabling our partner devices with our virtualization technology, we announced a new partner – Sony Mobile – who will be working with us to develop and sell VMware Ready devices. This is great news for Sony Mobile customers out there, so stay tuned for details on device availability.

We’re also expanding our efforts with Verizon Wireless. As you might recall, the first VMware Ready devices – LG Intuition and Razr M by Motorola on Verizon Wireless – were launched in May 2013. And since then we added Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S4 and Razr Maxx by Motorola to the list.

Lastly, the recently released VMware Horizon Workspace 1.5 now includes the management capabilities to create the Android workspace, provision and also manage its lifecycle.  This is another step forward in our vision to allow IT administrators to manage users, not devices by providing an interface to provision applications (Windows, SaaS and mobile), data, policies and services to users – all while leveraging the Horizon platform to broker access to these assets from any device.

For those of you at VMworld, there a number of sessions on Horizon Workspace you should check out. And for anyone wanting to explore mobile management even further, I’m covering this topic in session EUC5145 and I welcome you to join that discussion!
